It responds more quickly to voice commands than the majority of other robots, including the $599 self-emptying Neabot NoMo.

In addition to letting you control the robot via either a smartphone or remote, the iRobot Genius app makes it easy to configure the j7+, establish a schedule, and fine-tune other settings. It will guide new users through a process of onboarding to aid the robot in determining their space for cleaning and also learn about their home.

The j7+ has a larger dustbin than most of the self emptying robot vacuum for pets-emptying robots that we've tested. This lets it store more debris, however you'll have to empty it every seven to eight months (or more often if you have lots of pet hair or other heavy debris). iRobot sells filters and bags that can be replaced separately.

The j7+ also features a front-facing camera, which is designed to help the robot stay clear of hazards such as power cords and pet waste. The camera doesn't perform as well in dim lighting, though it's possible to look at a competitor with a more efficient camera, like the Roborock S7 MaxV.

In the end, I was thrilled to discover that the iRobot J7+ automatically emptys its dust bin into the Clean Base Automatic Dirt Disposal once it's docked. It is designed in a way that allows it to refill and drain without touching the pad or getting wet.

The T10's intelligent mapping technology is one of the features that makes it stand out from other robot vacuums. It creates a precise, three-dimensional map showing the plan of your home. This allows the robot to more accurately detect obstacles and modify its navigational process that enhances the overall efficiency of cleaning.

The ION XL robot vacuum is one of the most flexible on the market. It can clean carpets and hard floors. The robot also does well at maneuvering around furniture and can even navigate stairs and fully-carpeted rooms effortlessly.

I tested the IONXL in a family and kitchen room with hardwood floors, area rugs and a standard test for debris. It was a great job vacuuming and clearing debris, pet hair, and even some of the more difficult to remove carpet crumbs. It also did a great job at moving around my bar stool and didn't hit them as the iRobot J7+ did during this test. The only issue is that the IONXL cannot detect cords, toys and shoes that are in its path, which means you'll have to clean your home prior to running this robotic vacuum if you want it to stay clear of these items.

The ION XL robotic cleaner isn't as sophisticated as the iRobot J7+, but it's a great option if you do not need to spend more than $500 on a best robot vacuum self emptying. It's superior to the eufy RoboVac 11S, in many ways. It's simpler to maintain and has lower monthly costs. It is also better in vacuuming floors that are not clean and picking up pet fur, but it isn't as effective on low- or carpets with higher pile.

It's not as robust but it's still an excellent option. The ION XL is a powerful machine with a huge capacity bin. It is controlled by an app or a voice command and is easy to maintain. It's also a good price.
